Annual Scholarship Award
We are pleased to announce Double El Conservation Districts 43rd annual scholarship. An award created to recognize students who have demonstrated a meaningful commitment to service, leadership, and positive change in their communities.
This scholarship is designed to honor individuals who understand that impact is not measured solely by grades, but by empathy, initiative, and the willingness to show up for others. We are especially interested in students who have contributed their time and energy to addressing community needs—whether through volunteer work, advocacy, mentorship, organizing, or service-driven projects.
While academic effort is valued, the primary focus of this scholarship is on character, service, and sustained engagement. Applicants are encouraged to reflect on how their community involvement has shaped their values, influenced their goals, and contributed to the well-being of others.
Eligibility
Eligibility for this scholarship is limited to students who attend Big Sandy School, Calhan School District, or Miami-Yoder School District, or who reside within the Double El Conservation District boundaries.
Additional consideration will be given to applicants who have participated in conservation efforts or whose parents or guardians are cooperators with the Double El Conservation District. These experiences reflect a commitment to stewardship and responsible land and resource management that aligns closely with the mission of this scholarship.
The scholarship awards a total of $2,500.00, payable over two years. $1,000.00 will be awarded during the recipient’s first year, with the remaining $1,500.00 awarded during the second year, contingent upon submission of an official transcript demonstrating a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher.
Selection and Acceptance
All application materials must be submitted on or before April 15th to PO Box 215 Simla, CO 80835 or our office at 504 Washington Ave. Simla, CO 80835. All responses must be handwritten. Late, typed, or incomplete applications will not be considered.
The scholarship will be awarded to a student who exemplifies compassion, responsibility, and a genuine desire to make a difference. We believe these qualities are essential to leadership and long-term success, both within and beyond the classroom.
We encourage all eligible students who are passionate about service, community involvement and conservation to apply.
