Overview:
Categories: Fruit, Proven Performer, Short or Dense BarrierThis variety of chokecherry provides fruit that is valued by both wildlife and jelly makers, is tolerant of a wide range of soil conditions, with fair drought and good cold hardiness.
White blossoms provide spring color and are aromatic, while dark red foliage at maturity is an attractive addition to multi-row windbreaks, where supplemental moisture is available.
Due to its’ suckering habit, it can be used as a single row planting where a short or dense barrier is needed and can reach heights up to 25 ft. Thicket forming growth provides cover for song bird nesting, loafing and roosting, as well fruit and foliage providing food value for songbirds, rodents, small animals, whitetail and mule deer.
Black knot can be a possible disease issue and it is not recommended to include in plantings that contain other stone fruits. Dried leaves in the fall can be poisonous to horses. Good for up to 9000 ft. elevation.
